The project explores the interior of a cabin set amidst nature, within the mountains of Vatra Dornei. Designed for short-term rental, the cabin is organized across three levels — basement, ground floor, and upper floor — with the interior design intervention focusing on the latter two.
Shared below, private above.
The ground floor is organized as a generous open-plan space that brings together the entrance hall, kitchen, and living area, creating a shared environment for socializing and relaxation. The upper floor is dedicated to the private areas and includes two bedrooms and two bathrooms, each space designed to provide comfort and privacy.
Wood, stone, concrete, metal.
The design concept is rooted in the relationship between the interior and the natural surroundings of the cabin, as well as in the architectural character of the building itself. The materials and textures draw inspiration from elements of the mountain environment: wood, stone, concrete, and metal. Warm wood textures, stone-effect ceramic tiles, concrete-textured surfaces, and black-painted metal details and accessories are brought together throughout the interior.
Wood, first among them.
Wood becomes the dominant material of the design, present throughout — from the flooring and furniture pieces to the cladding of selected walls. Its presence creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere, contrasting with the cooler expression of concrete, stone, and metal. Together, these materials establish a balance between the natural and the contemporary, creating a fusion between two distinct atmospheres.
The design therefore aims to preserve the authentic character and connection to nature that define a mountain cabin, while reinterpreting them through a contemporary and functional approach, tailored to the experience of short-term accommodation.
